Writing Content
Too many people do not know how to write content for their websites. They always want to know, what is quality content for SEO (Search Engine Optimization)? They are always trying to find ways to make Google like them. Many will think, how can I rank highly with Google? How many keywords should I use?
Stop right there people! Stop trying to get Google to like you by bending over backwards to please them. If you want to please Google and more importantly, please your website visitors, you only need to write some good quality content that is conversational and informative for your websites and blogs. That’s it, plain and simple.
What is Quality Content for SEO
So you are probably asking yourself, what does quality content mean in terms of SEO? When you write out the content for your webpages and blog posts it is very important to write as if you are talking to or explaining something to your best friend or a family member. I write content the way I talk to people.
I’m sure you wouldn’t enjoy me stating facts and figures without adding any character to my conversation. How boring is that? You have to engage your reader in a conversation, tell a story, and maybe add some humor, stop thinking of ways to game the systems for search engine rankings. When you write your content just let it flow and show through your words what ordinary people will understand. This will greatly help your SEO.
A Slinky?
The difference between writing good content and bad content reminds me of when I was in high school and I was taking a Physics class. Yeah, I know, how boring. But this is why I chose to tell you this story.
For the first quarter of the school year the teacher was an old-school, put a formula on the board and dictate how it should work, type of teacher. Talk about I want to take a nap in that class. But I chose Physics because I wanted to be a pilot and you need to know Physics to be a pilot.
Then after several weeks the teacher had to leave for some type of family emergency so the school brought in a new, younger teacher. This teacher didn’t just put formulas on the blackboard and give us some scientific reasoning for it. She showed how the formula worked by way of visual examples. She used so many props to explain the processes, like a fan and a piece of paper or even a Slinky. Yes I said a Slinky.
I learned so much more with her as the teacher than I did with the other older-style teacher, and my grades improved as well. She taught by engaging us through visuals and quality explanations, whereas the previous teacher would teach us as if he were a walking textbook. Can we say BORING?
Do what I just did
Well this is how you need to write your content. Engage the reader in a conversation and get them thinking, make them relate, and/or make them laugh. Have fun when you are writing your content and don’t think about pleasing Google and the other search engines with specific keywords. Your content is the best group of keywords you can possibly use.
For example, I used the above story about my boring Physics class in high school becoming more fun through engagement. Well I was also engaging your memories of high school. Even if you didn’t take Physics I’m sure you could relate to a possible similar story of your high school years. This is what quality content is all about. In addition to providing the information that your readers are seeking, you also want to engage them in something that they may be able to relate to and be natural in how you write it.
Thank You Google
As someone who likes to write (and likes to talk) I’m glad that Google no longer puts great emphasis on keywords as a way to rank websites and focuses more on the quality writing of the content. Because now Google is acting like that young engaging Physics teacher I had in high school instead of being formula driven like the older teacher. Out with the old and in with the new.
If you are a sociable person and you like to engage in conversation with people, then you should have no problem writing content for your website. All you have to do is treat your readers as though they are right in front of you and you are having a conversation with them, albeit one sided, and type out your conversation.
