Technology is the mother of all invention and for website design it’s no different. I’m going to explain how to build a free website without programming it. Nowadays it’s easy and you do not need any experience or a certification of graduation to build one. It’s so easy you can literally have your own website in a matter of minutes. Are you interested?

If you can, think back 20 years to 1994. We were two years past the end of Desert Storm and America was being hailed as the last remaining Superpower. But life was much less complicated than it is today and yet was also more complicated, depending on where you are basing your understanding.
For example think about how today Social Media networks like Facebook and Twitter are so intertwined and a part of our 
everyday lives. Yet 20 years ago no one even knew what Social Media was all about. Even the internet being used by ordinary everyday people was still in its infancy. Matter of fact, that global giant retailer known as Amazon was just getting its start in a garage in Seattle, WA in 1994.
Technology has grown quite fast within the past 20 years and is growing faster by the day. Even if we were to look back only 10 years we would still be surprised at how far technology has changed our lives. As for building a website, it used to mean that you had to know some sort of computer programming like HTML to build a website. Reading this article took me back to the first time that I used Windows 3.1 and made the leap from DOS. WordPress simplifies the experience for HTML users the same way that Windows simplified the experience for DOS users.

Me too Robin. Even though I have been working on computers since 1988 I wanted nothing to do with any kind of programming. It was mainly because I had many programmers who I worked with and I would always see and hear them complaining at how difficult it was sometimes just to make the program work correctly. I knew first hand how difficult it was for them because it was/is my job to break computer software and find faults with the coding. But now that building a website can be done with one hand tied behind your back, I have created 3 websites in 10 months. I remember in the past, I used homestead when creating a website at least 10 years back and it was decent, but not very professional looking. Robert this is so very simple and easy to build a free–Completely Free WebSite at Wealthy Affiliate. I built a WebSite using Dreamweaver and the Books WebSite for dummies and Dreamweaver for Dummies. I spent lots of hours trying to understand WebSite building all by my self. I did build a WebSite and was getting 400 to 500 visits a day but it took me 6 months to do so. You are welcome Bill. There are still many people who live in the present but think in the past when it comes to website design. They still think that you need to know programming to build a website. The sad thing is they pay people like web .com to build them a website thinking that they are going to program them a website when all they are doing is just using a website builder, which is any person can use nowadays. This entire website was made by me and I do not know a single line of programming code. If I can do it anyone can do it…with one eye closed and one hand tied behind their back…it is super easy.
Hey Robert, being born and bred as a Gen Y, I find that using technology is as natural as speaking in my mother tongue. My parents thought we are genius. I just think that it’s so simple and easy to use. In fact, I don’t know what I would do everyday without it. But I could see it coming. Just like how everyone now has a smartphone and a social media profile, it’s a matter of time before we own our website too.

Awesome article. I honestly didn’t know Amazon started up in Garage. That’s pretty sweet! I was actually talking to a friend just last night about how far technology has come. My own children (though very young still) take it for granted.
When I was growing up we had maybe 4 or 5 stations on T.V! I still remember watching the Disney movies almost every Sunday and that was a treat. Now they have Netflix, mainstream cable and more! On demand? what? Eating out was a treat but it is so common now.
I also definitely remember making some of my first websites and having to learn html, flash and more. It was a real pain. SiteRubix really has made it a painless process and they give you TWO FREE websites and free hosting. You really can’t beat it.
Just as a side note: I built a Blogspot website 4 years ago that only had one post. You are so right Chris. It’s amazing when you see all of these people on their smartphones and most if not all of the current day models (iPhone, Android,…) were not even around 7 years ago. 7 YEARS! If you were to go back and look at pictures and videos of 9/11 you will not see one single person on a cell phone, not one single person taking pictures or videos with there smartphones because there weren’t any. Technology is quickly evolving and now it is so easy to build your own website that anyone who can use a computer can build one.
You really have a good point there. We really do think in the stone age when we think of what it would be like to build a website. It’s really so much easier now. God I remember when one of my best friends in high school got that crazy iPhone where you could touch the screen. I was so jealous. Now we all have them. Website are becoming like that too for sure. We could really all have one.

They say things happen for a reason and I too had seen web design people asking thousands to build a website for me but I always said no, there has got to be another way that is cheaper and that I can have more creative control. I did some more searching and then just by chance I found Wealthy Affiliate’s Site Rubix website builder. Robert, Growing up in the 60’s and 70’s, and seeing the incredible changes in technology, makes me wonder what the future will bring for my children and grandchildren.
